All funds from sales after cost of printing will go directly to benefit In Defense of Girlhood, a program based in Los Angeles which provides free doll therapy to Black girls to provide girls with chance for self-expression and play that they may not have the opportunity to do elsewhere in their lives. The program also works to address adultification bias in school systems with an emphasis on increasing awareness of bias and its harmful effects, while informing educators about how to teach Black girls in an environment where they have and equal opportunity to succeed.

This program, founded by Renee Curry, is run by the Center for Empowered Families and began while Curry was providing therapy to youth at the Imperial Courts community in Watts, CA. Currently CEF provides six twelve-week doll play and art therapeutic workshops for girls ages 5-11 in LAUSD schools with several goals: to increase opportunities for children to learn to express their innocence more vibrantly with their peers; to lower deficit-focused orientation of Black girls; and to stimulate positive self-imagery, social interaction techniques, and healthy friendship skills.
